The rapid growth of e-commerce, quick commerce, and omni-channel retailing has introduced new fulfillment models that challenge traditional retail logistics structures. Among these innovations, dark stores—retail outlets designed exclusively for online order fulfillment—have emerged as a critical component of modern retail supply chains. This study explores the strategic role of dark stores in enhancing last-mile delivery efficiency, inventory optimization, and customer responsiveness. Using a quantitative research approach with survey data collected from 480 retail professionals and logistics managers across India, the study applies structural equation modeling (SEM) to evaluate the impact of dark store integration on supply chain performance. The findings reveal that dark stores significantly improve order fulfillment speed, reduce last-mile delivery cost, and enhance customer satisfaction in high-density urban markets. The study contributes to future retail supply chain literature by validating dark stores as a central node in technology-driven, demand-responsive logistics ecosystems.
